By the end of this lesson, the learner will be able to: 

  • Discuss the benefits, challenges, and tasks associated with being a Peer Mental Health Navigator (PMHN).
  • Review skills and characteristics needed to effectively serve as a Peer Mental Health Navigator (e.g., clear communication, empathy, etc.)
  • Practice strategies for conflict resolution and how to work through difficult situations with people.
  • Examine different forms of “self-care,” and positive coping techniques for stressful situations and life events.
  • Discuss culturally tailored and appropriate strategies that can promote positivity around help-seeking behaviors within communities.
  • Identify community resources and services that support people’s mental health and well-being and help other people find resources that support their mental health and well-being.
  • Role-play different scenarios for acting as a Peer Mental Health Navigator (PMHN).
  • Identify ways that you can engage in promoting mental health in your community.
