Peer Mental Health Navigator Training Program Agreement of Understanding

The goal of the Peer Mental Health Navigator (PMHN) training program is to prepare community members to support individuals whose lives are impacted by mental illness, and to connect them to the resources and care they need to thrive. No one should have to struggle alone or not know where to go for help. As a Peer Mental Health Navigator you will be able to offer compassion, resources, and social support. Additionally, PMHNs will partner with the Mental Health Matters team to help reduce stigma and myths around mental health and illness by sparking dialogue with people in the community and participating in at least one MHM community event or round table per year.

Those who complete all of the requirements for the PMHN training by the end of the five weeks, following the onboarding session, will receive a MHM certificate of completion and $150 in the form of a Visa gift card.

Expectations to complete the PMHN Training Program and receive the monetary incentive:

  1. Attend the onboarding session held on the 8th of January, 2023 to learn how to access the online course material. 
    (Note: If you are unable to attend this live Zoom session please contact us at info@mentalhealthmatterswa.com at least 48 hours prior).
  1. Read and sign the electronic Mutual Agreement of Understanding located within the online curriculum portal prior to beginning the coursework.
  1. Complete the 5 online lessons and self-check activities at the end of each online module to achieve a passing score of at least 70%.
    (Note: You can retake these self-check activities as many times as needed to achieve the minimum score. Additionally, you must also mark each section as complete using the provided button as you move through the content).
  1. Attend ALL synchronous discussion sessions accompanying the five online modules. These live sessions will be held on Sundays, 2:00pm–3:30pm. Dates specified on registration.
    (Note: If you are unable to attend live, you must notify us at least 48 hours prior to your absence and watch the archived, recorded sessions).
  1. Complete the Pre and Post Feedback Surveys integrated into the online curriculum portal.
  1. Complete ALL follow-up (6 and 12 month) surveys.
  1. Participate in at least one additional Mental Health Matters round-table or community event within the calendar year.
  1. Facilitate discussions about mental health with at least 5 other people within a calendar year after completing training. The people you talk with could be family members, friends, co-workers, people from church, school, or others in your community.

  • Protect the privacy of every participant, at every event and every meeting.
  • Support the creation of a positive environment for other navigators and for community members.
  • Listen to understand: listening with intent.
  • Use the resources provided responsibly.
  • Focus on the well-being of the community.
  • Offer my help without giving medical advice or counseling.
  • Report any problems to the program supervisor.
  • Always maintain an attitude of curiosity and have fun!
