Leading Lifesaving Conversations: L.E.A.R.N® Skills to Help Someone Considering Suicide
May 1, 2024 , 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm PDT
Many of us have confided in others during dark times, and vice versa. But it can feel awkward, if not downright frightening, not knowing what to do when a loved one or a peer shows suicide warning signs. Mental Health Matters of Washington, in partnership with UW Forefront Center Forefront Suicide Prevention, and UW Bothell- UW Bothell School of Nursing and Health Studies, is hosting a FREE, workshop to help people L.E.A.R.N. the steps to help someone who may be contemplating taking their life. Developed by UW’s Forefront Center, the five simple and effective L.E.A.R.N. steps empower individuals to help others move in the direction of hope, recovery, and survival.
The last thing many of us want to hear is that someone we know and love is considering ending their own life. The word “suicide” can be a scary word associated with much stigma. Some think that if we don’t talk about it, it won’t happen—or, if we talk about it, it will put the idea in their head. However, these myths are false and unhelpful. Having tools to assist with conversations is an important first step to suicide prevention.
Are you someone who knows someone struggling but do not know what to say or do? Then join us on Wednesday, May 1st, 5 – 7:30 PM. to learn more and practice skills that can help save someone’s life. Use this link to register.
